Millenium Development Goals (MDG) ELP

In my opinion, I think the MDGs are really important and they are the major keys to a "Fair World". If we could achieve those goals, all people will have equal rights and everyone would be able to live in perfect harmony. Among those MDGs, I find the 8th Goal the most important - Global Partnership. This is because if the rich and poor countries don't work together to achieve the goals, it will be very difficult to make even a slight change. Cooperation is the key. As the saying goes, 'Two is better than one'. More work can be done if countries cooperate collaboratively, and it will eventually lead to the achievement of the MDGs.

Can We Change The World? ELP

I have chosen to work on the second learning opportunity, which is to know more about the MDGs, investigate what the UN are doing and how successful it is. The reason is because I find the MDGs extremely important and if they can really be achieved, this world will be a fair place for everyone to live equally and in harmony. This is why I also want to learn about what some organisations are doing in order to help make these ambitions turn into reality.

A Quote From "The Power Of One"

A quote from "The Power Of One" - 'A waterfall starts but with one drop, and look what becomes of that.'

1. What do you think the quote means?

I think this quote means that if you want something to happen, you have to start by doing small things, which will slowly spread to the people around you. This creates the opportunity for you to do bigger things, and the others would follow. This cycle goes on and if you don't give up, your ambition would eventually be fulfilled.

2. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Why?

I agree with this statement because when things change, it's usually because of one person. That one person will then start striving for his goal; eventually people will start helping him along the way, and his dream would be able to turn into reality.

3. How does this link with the topic 'A Fair World'?

'A Fair World' refers to everyone living fair and equally. For example, all people have equal rights, are able to obtain their standard needs without any difficulty, etc. Unfortunately this does not apply to everyone in reality. True, there are lots of people who have access to these priorities, but there are even more people who don't. In order to help the less fortunate, someone has to make a move first, then other people will eventually start contributing efforts; that way, it will be possible to make a change for the less fortunate. This is the same as the quote from "The Power Of One": 'A waterfall starts but with one drop, and look what becomes of that.'
