Can We Change The World? ELP

I have chosen to work on the second learning opportunity, which is to know more about the MDGs, investigate what the UN are doing and how successful it is. The reason is because I find the MDGs extremely important and if they can really be achieved, this world will be a fair place for everyone to live equally and in harmony. This is why I also want to learn about what some organisations are doing in order to help make these ambitions turn into reality.

A Quote From "The Power Of One"

A quote from "The Power Of One" - 'A waterfall starts but with one drop, and look what becomes of that.'

1. What do you think the quote means?

I think this quote means that if you want something to happen, you have to start by doing small things, which will slowly spread to the people around you. This creates the opportunity for you to do bigger things, and the others would follow. This cycle goes on and if you don't give up, your ambition would eventually be fulfilled.

2. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Why?

I agree with this statement because when things change, it's usually because of one person. That one person will then start striving for his goal; eventually people will start helping him along the way, and his dream would be able to turn into reality.

3. How does this link with the topic 'A Fair World'?

'A Fair World' refers to everyone living fair and equally. For example, all people have equal rights, are able to obtain their standard needs without any difficulty, etc. Unfortunately this does not apply to everyone in reality. True, there are lots of people who have access to these priorities, but there are even more people who don't. In order to help the less fortunate, someone has to make a move first, then other people will eventually start contributing efforts; that way, it will be possible to make a change for the less fortunate. This is the same as the quote from "The Power Of One": 'A waterfall starts but with one drop, and look what becomes of that.'

Reflection on "A Fair World"

I think our topic, "A Fair World" is going to be about laws and order, how people are treated around the world, different opinions of people on whether this world is fair, etc. We are studying this topic because for centuries, there has been a debate on a "Fair World" - some people think it's fair, whereas others think differently; we are learning about the different opinions of people around the world and how the opinions shaped history into what we have today. The questions and investigations I am interested in are: how people thought about the "Fair World" in the past compared to how they think it is today; is this world actually considered as a "Fair World"?; what is "Fair" and "Unfair"? The list goes on. There are a lot of things I want to learn from this topic. I hope my various questions would be answered throughout the next few Humanities lessons.

Team Roles

SC: To be able to successfully complete and score the results for the Belbin test.
- To consider what my team role is.
- To learn how a successful team actually works.

According to the Belbin Team Roles, I am the Team Worker and the Implementer. I got a total of 11 points for Team Worker and 10 points for Implementer. My lowest was 5 points for the Shaper. My prediction was accurate since I got the highest score for the Team Worker.

The strengths for the Team Worker are:
- Mild mannered, sociable and concerned about the wellbeing of other team members.
- Demonstrate flexibility.
- Able to adapt to suit different situations taking into account the wishes of other people.
- High levels of emotional intelligence.
- Diplomatic.
- Ensure that conflict in the team is minimised.
- Ensure the smooth running of the team.
- Morales are usually higher when we are around.

The weakness for the Team Worker is that we can be indecisive in dynamic situations.

The strengths for the Implementer are:
- Has common sense, self-control and discipline.
- Not afraid of hard work and prefer to tackle tasks in a systematic way.
- Well organised.
- Having loyalty to the team above loyalty to themselves or other groups outside their team.
- Frequently rise towards the top of organisations because they are seen as efficient and well organised.

The weaknesses for the Implementer are:
- May be seen as dull, hardworking and inflexible.
- May sometimes lack charisma.
